Fueling and Throttle

  • Bike consistently had trouble starting
  • The RPM of the engine would wildly jump at idle
  • After starting the bike would stall randomly at idle while warming up
  • Throttle response is extremely choppy while riding
  • Bike would stall at times for no apparent reason
  • Tried different brands of fuel
  • Tried keeping (a new bike) on a battery tender to address the struggling startup - no difference
  • The starting button doesn't act like other, older starting buttons (holding it down keeps the starter engaged) - it seems to kick off a starting routine
    • Is this a symptom of the key-less starting of the higher end models?
  • Dealer replaced the TMAP Sensor
    • Was in the shop 4 weeks
    • No change with the fuel/engine mapping problems
  • Was told it takes up to 2500 miles for the bike to break in (??)
  • Was told this type of starting and engine failing is within Polaris specifications
  • See the Starting Fails above

Speedometer

  • The speedometer needle fell off at about 1500 miles
  • Dealer replaced
    • Was in the shop 1 week
  • The new needle bounces at all speeds

Neutral Fail

  • After getting the bike back from the speedo fix, the random stalling while riding increased
  • At times the bike would not be in neutral when going out to start it
  • I watched the bike go from N to '--' after turning on the ignition
  • After starting the bike, it would pop out of N into '--' and the engine would cut out
  • Shifting to N became a dangerous endeavor
  • Dealer Replaced the Gear Position Sensor
    • Was in the shop 5 weeks

Continuing Issues

  • All the starting and fueling issues persist
  • Polaris offered a 5 year extended warranty on the FTR
  • The Dealer took the bike back on 16 Nov. 2023
  • Parts were on back order until the end of 2023
  • Polaris and the Dealer appear to have communication problems
  • 8 weeks in the shop
